Academia Sinica Open House
Held every October since 1998, with science lectures, laboratory tours, poster exhibitions, hands-on activities and games for families. It is a good occasion to see the Earth sciences and astronomy institutes described on Taiwan’s national academy. Details are published each year on Academia Sinica’s website.
Sky-watching at the Taipei Astronomical Museum
The museum runs themed guided tours around astronomical events, such as the Lyrids meteor shower in April. Its rooftop observatory offers daytime sunspot viewing through telescopes and stargazing on Saturday evenings (status as of 3 November 2026). See Science Travel.
Visiting the weather and earthquake agency
The Central Weather Administration receives group visits on formal application, made well in advance through its customer service section. A visit begins with a briefing on the agency and includes a miniature observation field, a display about meteorological satellites and a gallery on seismology; English guiding can be arranged (status as of 3 November 2026).
Scientific conferences
Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University and the Central Weather Administration announce their conferences and lectures on their own websites; this site does not keep a separate calendar.
The academy also hosts international meetings. Past examples include the 23rd conference of the Pacific Science Association in 2016, the 32nd conference of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) in 2017 and, on a smaller scale, a 2019 workshop on the Tatun volcanoes and volcanic hazard mitigation organised by the Institute of Earth Sciences and the Tatun volcano observatory.
